UFC contender and fan favorite Sean Strickland was challenged to complete Navy SEAL training against former Navy SEAL and fitness celebrity David Goggins.
In March 2024, Strickland received both praise and backlash when he said, “I don’t think there’s a Navy SEAL that could survive a week on the job.” [of] Instead of “training” with him, you “train” with him the other way around.

Enter Goggins, a former SEAL himself known for enduring extreme stress during his fitness programs and as a fierce motivational speaker. He’s also competed in triathlons and ultramarathons (26.7 miles).
Goggins posted a video on TikTok in which he challenged Strickland to an epic fitness challenge.
“This is your chance to show the world that you can beat me,” Goggins said in the video. “I’m going to bring a camera crew, and you better bring a camera crew, because I know you’re gonna want to capture this on camera,” he added. Talk Sports.
“Here’s a 49-year-old guy with a bad knee and a broken-down body trying to get you to join a camp and you think it’s going to ruin it,” the fitness guru continued.
“This is your chance, Strickland.”
In particular, Strickland will be completing “Hell Week,” the fourth week of the Navy SEAL selection training program.
according to Navy Seals“Hell Week” consists of 20 hours of physical training and over 200 miles of running a day. Candidates also only get about four hours of sleep total over the course of five and a half days.
“Hell Week is the ultimate test of a man’s will and class teamwork,” the site reads.
Strickland is Instagram videos He accepted the challenge and made fun of some of Goggins’ viral videos.
“I hear you want a slice, Goggins,” Strickland said. “I accept the challenge.”
“Just so you know, the only thing you can beat me in life is running, but I don’t have to run,” he added.
Strickland said he would undergo more rigorous training to become SEAL-qualified. Navy.comIn the qualifications and requirements section, the Navy declares that SEAL candidates must be able to complete the following consecutively:
- Swim 500 yards
- Do at least 50 push-ups in 2 minutes
- Do at least 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes
- Do at least 10 pull-ups in 2 minutes
- Run 1.5 miles
Strickland wrote in his post that he acknowledges Goggins could beat him “with a jog,” but that he plans to accept the challenge simply to kill time while he waits for a UFC middleweight championship opportunity.
