Johnson touts GOP unity over record-breaking fundraising numbers ahead of RNC

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana, is touting party unity as the House GOP campaign organization celebrates breaking an election-year fundraising record.

“This week, House Democrats have been thrown into further turmoil by voting to allow illegal immigrants to vote in American elections, voting against protecting women’s sports and engaging in the largest political cover-up in history regarding President Biden’s eligibility,” Johnson told Fox News Digital, “At the same time, House Republicans have passed commonsense legislation and raised record amounts of money to expand their majority.”

“As Republicans head to Milwaukee to nominate President Trump, our party is more united, more energized and equipped with the resources we need to win the election.”

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), the House Republican campaign arm, said it raised $37 million in the second quarter of 2024, the most ever for that period in an election year.

The NRCC also announced that June was its highest sales month on record, with $14.3 million of that coming in one month alone.

That further distances questions about whether Johnson can match the fundraising prowess of his predecessor, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who himself raised $23.5 million in the second quarter of 2024.

His figures, combined with the NRCC’s total and the $46.4 million raised by the Congressional Leadership Fund, an alliance of House Republican leadership, mean that House Republicans have added more than $100 million to their war chest during the period.

The election results will also be announced ahead of the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Wisconsin, where former President Trump is expected to be formally announced as the party’s nominee in November.

Confidence that Republicans can maintain and possibly expand their slim House majority appears to have soared over the past two weeks as Democrats deal with the aftermath of President Biden’s disastrous performance in the late June debates.

The 81-year-old presidential candidate’s poor performance against President Trump has raised concerns among party members about whether he will be re-elected in November for another four years in office.

In response, 17 House Democrats and one Senate Democrat called on Biden to drop out of the race.

But because the quarter ended on June 30 and the debate took place on June 27, the full picture of the impact on Republican fundraising will likely not become clear until early in the second half of the year.

Asked what advice he had for Republican candidates facing Democratic turmoil, Johnson told Fox News Digital on Thursday that they “need to talk about the answers to all the big challenges that have been created by the Biden administration’s policies.”

“Our candidates have done a very good job of presenting those answers in a very compelling way, and we’re very pleased with what we’re doing,” Johnson said.
