Former President Trump is set to return to New Jersey on Saturday evening as questions swirl about who he will choose as his running mate.
Trump, who will stop in Butler, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh, is expected to continue to highlight his performance in last month’s debate with President Biden, which he won after Biden’s lackluster performance. The campaign event also offers another chance for Trump to build up momentum in the incumbent president’s home state, which he recaptured in 2016 but lost in 2020.
Trump has voiced his desire in recent days to announce his nominee during the Republican National Convention (RNC), but sources say the announcement is more likely to come before the convention officially begins on Monday.
But the field has narrowed down to Republican Sens. J.D. Vance (Ohio) and Marco Rubio (Fla.) and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, although Trump has recently named Sen. Tim Scott (R-Lausanne, North Dakota) as a possible candidate.
Trump is scheduled to speak at approximately 5 p.m. EDT.
