Joe Biden ‘Will Be the Candidate’

Sen. Bernie Sanders (Independent, R-Vermont) has endorsed President Joe Biden. The New York Times In an op-ed Saturday, he said he would “do everything in my power to ensure President Biden is re-elected.”

Sanders Began Trump said that despite their political differences, Biden is “the most capable president in the modern history of our country and the favorite to defeat Donald Trump.”

To lend credence to his comments, Sanders cited his dissatisfaction with Biden’s support for Israel in its fight against the terrorist group Hamas, as well as his push for Obamacare (ACA) to solve the country’s “healthcare crisis.”

“And this isn’t my only disagreement with Biden,” he added.

Sanders acknowledged Biden’s “disastrous” performance in the June 27 presidential debate with former President Donald Trump, saying Biden not only stammered but also made a number of false statements, calling Biden “old and prone to gaffes. [and] Walking awkwardly.

“But we also know this: A presidential election is not an entertainment contest. It doesn’t begin and end with a 90-minute debate,” Sanders continued, appearing to downplay the countless gaffes that have happened during Biden’s time in the White House.

Sanders pivoted from complaints about Biden to praise, shouting, “Enough is enough! Biden may not be the ideal candidate, but he is the candidate and he should be the candidate!”

Biden supporters can speak with pride of having a good, decent Democratic president with a proven track record. The Biden administration, as a result of the American Rescue Plan, has rebuilt the economy in the middle of the pandemic much faster than economists thought possible. At a time when people feared for the future, we who supported him as president and in Congress put Americans back to work, provided cash benefits to desperate parents, and protected small businesses, hospitals, schools, and child care centers.

Sanders appears to be ignoring the fact that inflation under Biden threatens his reelection hopes, especially since “inflation and the economy” remain a top concern for voters.

But he called for Biden to “do more than defend his incredible record” if re-elected.

Sanders also called on Democrats who have begun to turn against Biden following both Biden’s infamous debate performance and Thursday’s NATO gaffe to “stop bickering and nitpicking,” saying he understands it’s difficult to explain the president’s missteps, but argued that “unlike Republicans, they don’t have to explain a candidate who has now been convicted of 34 felonies.”

Sanders shifted his focus to criticizing Trump and comparing the two candidates.

Joe Biden wants to tax the wealthy so they can fund the needs of working families, the elderly, children, the sick and the poor. Donald Trump wants to cut taxes on the billionaire class. Joe Biden wants to expand Social Security benefits. Donald Trump and his allies want to undermine Social Security. Joe Biden wants to make it easier for workers to unionize and collectively bargain for better wages and benefits. Donald Trump wants to make it possible for multinational corporations to exploit workers and cheat consumers with impunity. Joe Biden respects democracy. Donald Trump attacks democracy.

Unfortunately for Sanders, Trump’s popularity is only growing. The Washington PostAccording to an ABC News/Ipsos poll, Trump and Biden are in a “close race” in the national popular vote, with each candidate receiving 46 percent support among registered voters.

“This election presents one tough choice after another,” Sanders concluded, “and I want to say this as strongly as I can: For our children and for future generations, he [Biden] We have to win.”
