Farage Announces U.S. Trip to ‘Stand Shoulder to Shoulder’ with Trump

Following the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, Brexit leader Nigel Farage has announced an impromptu visit to the United States in a show of solidarity with his long-time friend and political ally.

The newly elected Reformist British MP flew to Milwaukee this week to attend the Republican National Convention, saying he would “stand shoulder to shoulder with President Trump and America in defending democracy”.

write in Telegraph “I’m doing this to support my friend Donald Trump as we head into the final stages of an era-defining election,” Farage said the morning after Donald Trump’s shooting.

“He is the favourite to win – and after today’s heinous acts he will win. I am determined to do everything in my power to ensure that the special relationship between the UK and the US remains as strong as possible.”

The Brexit advocate accused the traditional media of spreading a “hate narrative” against President Trump and called on liberal opposition elites to tone down their “intolerance”.

“It’s time for the ‘be kind’ camp to realize that their words have an impact. It has become commonplace among media elites to paint Trump as an authoritarian fascist. It is now commonplace to hear that those of us on the right who care about our country are somehow authoritarian dictators,” he wrote.

Mr Farage added: “We can disagree vehemently, we can debate and disagree, but it is essential that we say loudly and clearly that whatever your opinion, resorting to violence is never acceptable.”

“President Trump failed by such a narrow margin. It’s a miracle. I urge those on the left to think carefully about how they play politics. Next time, the results may be completely different.”

Farage is not the only European populist to condemn the media’s role in stoking hatred against the former president; both Dutch leader Geert Wilders and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who also recently survived an assassination attempt, have also suggested the media instigated the assassination attempt on Trump.

Like Fico and Wilders, Farage has been the target of political violence and was once stoned during a parliamentary election campaign – just days after the leader of the Reform UK Party was pelted with a milkshake in Clacton.

Mr Farage had a milkshake thrown in his face while campaigning for the 2019 European Parliament elections, after which prominent left-wing British comedian Jo Brand “joked” on the BBC that she would have preferred if battery sulphuric acid had been used instead.

Mr Farage said on Sunday: “It’s just a comment. It’s just a joke. It’s just a milkshake. That’s why the left makes a fuss every time someone pours a drink over me or some so-called comedian suggests I throw battery acid at the BBC. It’s just a joke. If you’re a politician, isn’t that part of your job?”

“That’s not true. I believe the rhetoric coming from the left is inspiring. I was pelted with rocks during the campaign and last night President Trump was shot. The front-runner to become the next president came millimeters away from death.”
