PA Gov. Josh Shapiro delivers update on Trump assassination attempt, honors victim slain in attack

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro on Sunday provided an update on the investigation into the assassination attempt on former President Trump.

Shapiro said state police are working with federal investigators to gather more information about the shooter. He also paid tribute to the victim, Corey Comperatore, who was shot and killed while shielding his wife and daughter during the attack.

“Last night we lost a fellow Pennsylvania native, Corey. I just spoke with his wife and Corey’s two daughters. Corey was a father to daughters, a firefighter and attended church every Sunday. Corey loved his community and especially his family,” Shapiro said.

“Corey was a huge supporter of the former president and was so excited to be with him and the community last night. I asked Corey’s wife if I could share what we talked about and she said sure. She also asked me to share with everyone that Corey died a hero and that he gave his life to protect his family,” he added.

“His wife and daughters have just been through the unthinkable, unimaginable. My brother just turned 50 and had so much more left to experience in life. Hate knows no limits, love knows no limits. Please pray for my sister-in-law, niece, mother, sister, me and his niece and nephew. This feels like a terrible nightmare but we know this is our painful reality,” Schafer wrote.
