The MLB Home Run Derby wasn’t a huge success on Monday night, as singer Ingrid Andres was heavily criticized for singing the national anthem at Globe Life Field.
Andres, a 32-year-old singer-songwriter who has had a Billboard Hot 100 hit, stood between the pitcher’s mound and home plate and began to sing.
From the start, Andres seemed to struggle to control his vocal tone, especially on the higher notes of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Philadelphia Phillies player Alec Bohm, who was taking part in the Home Run Derby, was seen grinning when the broadcast panned to him during the playing of the national anthem.
Bohm’s moment was reminiscent of pop star Fergie’s national anthem fiasco before the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, when multiple NBA stars tried not to react to her singing.

Social media was quick to react to Andres, offering some pretty harsh criticism.
“My ears are bleeding. One of the worst performances of the national anthem ever,” posted one X user.

Another commented: “Ingrid Andress delivered the worst rendition of the national anthem ever, rivalling Fergie.”
“Hmm…that national anthem was hilarious,” posted another X user.
Sports Illustrated reporter Alex Kerr commented, “It’s a real shame. I think Ingrid Andress is a great person, but that was one of the worst renditions of the national anthem I’ve ever heard in my life.”
