Britain’s Labour government will maintain a ban on health professionals prescribing puberty-blocking drugs to children, Health Secretary Wes Streeting has said.
Streeting, like the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, initially appeared to struggle to grasp basic biology. declare The notion that “trans women are women” has been overturned by the new Minister of Health’s gender identity crisis. Said In 2022, he shocked woke supporters by declaring that “men have penises and women have vaginas.”
The openly gay Labour politician, who was sworn in as a cabinet minister earlier this month, continues to reject the far-left excesses of gender ideology within his party, shutting down calls for the government to again allow doctors to give children life-changing puberty-suppressing drugs.
“The risks of withdrawing puberty hormones at this critical stage in life are still unknown, and that is the basis for my decision. I am proceeding cautiously because the safety of children comes first,” Streeting said. I have written About X.
“Some of the things being said in public are extremely irresponsible,” he said, an apparent reference to some left-leaning thinkers who argue that transgender kids will die if we stop giving them puberty-blocking drugs.
“I know there is a lot of fear and anxiety. I am determined to improve the quality and access to care for transgender people. Any decisions I take will always be based on evidence, not politics or political pressure,” the health minister said.

Streeting cited an independent investigation by Dr Hilary Cass into so-called sex-change treatments given to children as the main reason the government plans to continue the ban on puberty-blocking drugs for children.
Cass, who rejects the notion of “gender-affirming care” promoted by the progressive left, found little evidence to support the idea that puberty suppressants improve children’s “mental or psychosocial health.” Meanwhile, the top pediatrician said the drugs’ long-term effects on young people’s “cognitive and psychosexual development” are not fully understood.
Importantly, the Cass report also noted that because many children naturally outgrow beliefs about their transgender identity, “for most young people, medical treatment is not the best way to address gender-related distress.”
Despite the report’s damning findings, many within the Labour Party continue to urge the Government to lift the ban on drugs that are life-changing for children.
