Two days after Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass wished death upon Donald Trump, Joe Biden fan and fundraiser Jack Black has finally spoken out. statement Published on Instagram Kung Fu Panda The star wrote:
I was shocked by the content of Sunday’s show. I do not condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.
And then the shocking news came.
After much consideration, we no longer feel it is appropriate for us to continue touring with Tenacious D and all future creative plans have been put on hold. We thank our fans for their support and understanding.
Nearly 24 hours after an assassin narrowly missed blowing off former President Trump’s head, Tenacious D took to the stage in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday. During the performance, Black and the audience sang “Happy Birthday” to guitarist Kyle Gass. Afterwards, Black asked Gass what his birthday wish was. Gass replied, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” referencing the assassination.
The audience laughed, and as far as we can tell, Black said nothing and the show went on.
But then came the inevitable backlash, starting with senators who called for Tenacious D to be expelled from the country.
“Tenacious D, who called for the assassination of Donald Trump during their Sydney concert, should be immediately deported,” wrote Australian Federal Senator Ralph Babette.
He added:
I strongly condemn the call to political violence made by Tenacious D in Sydney on Sunday. Advocating or wishing for the assassination of a President is outrageous, abhorrent, filthy and evil and is unacceptable in any form. This is not a joke and he was serious when he wished for the President’s death.
…
Any action short of deportation would be an endorsement of the shooting and assassination attempt against Donald J. Trump.
Black is intense too Blowback Comments from fans on Instagram. Some defended and supported Black, but if you look at it honestly, just as many said things like:
- Do you support the assassination attempt?
- Trump 2024
- Do you condone murder?
- I lost all respect
- Shame on you for supporting such horrible comments endorsing assassination. A father died protecting his wife and daughter and taking a bullet for them. No condolences for the family? Just “next time, don’t let Trump get away with it.” I’m not a Republican so this isn’t even about politics. This is about supporting murder and violence against your fellow man. I’ve lost all respect and I’m honestly heartbroken. I’ve loved you for so many years.
- Sorry Jack, I’m leaving now.
- I’ve lost another fan. You’re the worst!
As a free speech extremist, I will never tolerate encouraging violence or murder, even in jest. It’s not a hard line to draw.
Black must be furious. Kung Fu Panda 4Gass, 54, was on a plane on a sold-out Australian tour … and his idiot partner ruined it all. And so was Black’s reaction in the moment: In the video, Black appears to laugh and say, “Thank you,” after Gass expresses his desire to see Trump assassinated.
Black and Gass clearly did not understand that the world changed on Saturday night. The season for attacking Donald Trump is over. After nearly a decade of corporate media and Hollywood waging the most vile, dishonest and personal hate campaign this country has ever seen, after a decade of de facto assassins in the media and Hollywood encouraging the murder of Trump with the lie that he was “literally Hitler,” it’s over. No decent person will put up with it anymore.
Mr. Black deserves a second chance. He did the right thing. But there must be consequences for openly wishing violence upon another human being, especially a former president and current presidential front-runner who represents millions of people.
