Biden Family Looking at Possible Exit Strategies for Besieged President

What would happen if President Joe Biden were to drop out of the 2024 presidential race? NBC News reported on Friday that the octogenarian’s family is currently considering scenarios to address that question.

The report, citing two people familiar with the talks, said one of the conditions for the talks would be for Biden to keep his reputation intact after he leaves office and not give former President Donald Trump any room to gain political capital.

Biden’s family has discussed specifically how he wants to end his reelection effort in his own time and with a carefully calculated plan.

People familiar with the discussions said consideration of the impact of the campaign on his health, his family and the country’s stability was at the forefront of the discussions.

Overall, the article acknowledges that the very prospect of Biden withdrawing, much less that his family is planning to do so, is “an extraordinary development after he has repeatedly said he will not give up his position as the party’s presumptive nominee.”

As for its veracity, the White House was quick to deny such speculation.

Spokesman Andrew Bates denied that any such talks were taking place within the family or across the party.

“That will never happen,” he said. “Those who make these allegations are not speaking on behalf of his family or team, and they will be proven wrong. Keep the faith.”

Biden’s reelection campaign chairwoman, Jen O’Malley Dillon, also insisted Friday that the president remains in the race for the White House.

“Obviously, the president is in this race,” O’Malley Dillon said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” when co-host Mika Brzezinski asked him if Biden was still in the race, saying Biden is “more committed than ever to defeating Donald Trump.”
