Firefighter Killed by Trump Would-Be Assassin, Laid to Rest

Corey Comperatore, a husband, father and firefighter killed by an assassin attempt on former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania last Saturday, was buried on Friday.

Photos and video showed Comperatore’s casket being carried out of Cabot United Methodist Church, draped in an American flag. by New York PostEight firefighters carried out the coffin of Comperatore, who died that day trying to shield his family from a hail of bullets.

“He was my hero,” said his widow, Helen Comperatore. post“He just said, ‘Get down!’ Those were his last words.”

Comperatore’s daughter also said her father died a hero.

“They won’t tell you how quickly he threw me and my mother to the ground. They won’t tell you that he shielded me from the bullets that were coming towards us,” she wrote. “He loved his family. He loved us so much that he would have taken an actual bullet for us.”

Former President Donald Trump honored Comperatore during his speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday night, with a firefighter’s uniform laid out on stage and, in an emotional moment, Trump kissed Comperatore’s helmet.

“He was a highly respected, highly respected former fire chief,” Trump said. “He was accompanied by his wife, Helen, the amazing woman I spoke to today. She was devastated. And his two precious daughters. He selfishly lost his life protecting them from the bullets that were flying. He jumped right over them and got shot. What an honorable man he was.”

Trump also quoted the Bible, John 15:13, which says, “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

Previous reports had said Trump was planning to attend Comperatore’s funeral. According to NBC Philadelphia“Trump will not attend the funeral due to Secret Service concerns, according to a source not authorized to speak publicly.”
