We Don’t Need In-Depth Investigation to Know Secret Service Head Should Be Fired

During an episode of HBO’s “Real Time” airing on Friday, host Bill Maher argued that President Joe Biden should have already fired Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle and that he didn’t need to conduct an extensive investigation to make that decision. Maher also argued that others have been fired for lesser reasons.

Maher began by asking Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who was attending in his personal capacity, “Should Joe Biden have fired the director of the Secret Service? I don’t understand.”

Buttigieg responded, “I don’t know all the details on the homeland security side. I know there’s a very serious post-mortem ongoing, a thorough investigation going on there. Everything leading up to that moment, that horrific moment, is being looked at. And I have confidence that President Biden and his administration will do the right thing.”

Maher then said, “But we didn’t need to look under a microscope. The guy was on the roof, not too far away, with a rifle, for a long time. I’ve seen people shot for lesser reasons, and the situation was awful. It appears another guy on the other side was shot. We’ll look into that when we have time.”

Buttigieg said there could be no rushed decision, that everything would be investigated in detail and then there would be accountability. Maher responded, “I get it.”
