LeBron James was selected as one of the flag bearers for the U.S. team at the Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony on Monday.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ James is a two-time gold medalist. He helped the U.S. basketball team win gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics.

“Representing the United States on this global stage at this moment when the world is coming together is an incredible honor,” James said in a statement. “For a kid from Akron, this responsibility means everything not only to me, but to my family, the kids back home, my teammates, my fellow Olympians and so many others across the country with lofty aspirations.”
“Sport has the power to bring us all together and I am proud to be a part of this important moment.”
Stephen Curry named James the flag bearer for the United States.
“We understand what an honor it is to hold this position and I think Bron’s entire career on and off the court speaks volumes that he is deserving of that honor,” Curry said.

The U.S. men’s basketball team narrowly avoids a shocking loss to South Sudan by more than 45 points.
“He has been committed to his lifelong passion of service and improving his community in every way possible and has exemplified what it means to excel both on and off the court, and his work speaks for itself.”
James was one of the stars of the 2008 U.S. national team that bounced back from a bronze medal finish in Athens in 2004 and became known as the “Redeem Team.” James went on to win gold in 2012.
James was not on the team in 2016 when the team won gold in Rio de Janeiro, nor was he on the team in 2021 when the team won gold in Tokyo.
This may be his final Olympics, but another medal will add to his legend.
The opening ceremony will be unique.
