An illegal immigrant accused of killing a Nashville restaurant owner in a hit-and-run crash has been indicted on a murder charge.
Ulises Ligos Martinez, a 24-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico, is being charged in the hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of Smokin’ Tides restaurant owner Matthew Carney, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed to FOX 17 News.
Metro Nashville police said Rigos-Martinez has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence in Carney’s death.
Police began searching for car theft suspect Ligoz-Martinez after a high-speed pursuit through Williamson County on July 11. Two occupants of the stolen vehicle were arrested, but Ligoz-Martinez fled the scene.

FOX 17 News also confirmed that Rigos-Martinez has an extensive criminal history.
Judge Tim Todd is accused of dismissing three charges during a preliminary hearing on March 6, according to FOX 17 News.

ICE also released a statement to FOX 17 News confirming the arrest.
“The New Orleans Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency issued an immigration detention warrant for Ulises Ligos-Martinez, 24, an undocumented Mexican citizen who was arrested in Davidson County, Tennessee on July 19 on suspicion of murder, vehicle theft and evading arrest. Ligos entered the United States at an unknown date and location without being granted admissibility or parole by immigration officials,” an ICE spokesperson said in a statement.

Nashville police said the investigation into Rigos-Martinez is ongoing.
