US voters agree Biden made correct decision by dropping out of race: poll

Recent polls show that American voters almost universally support President Biden’s decision to end his 2024 reelection campaign.

A staggering 87% of voters said they support the president’s decision to forego a second term, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll released on Thursday.

Only 9% of respondents said they opposed the decision.

The New York Times reported that the 87 percent agreement rate was one of the highest agreement rates for a question in a Times-Siena poll in recent years.

The president delivered a brief speech in the Oval Office on Wednesday announcing his decision to step down and offering his support to Vice President Kamala Harris.

“In a few months, the American people will choose the future course of our country. I’ve made my choice. I’ve spoken my mind,” Biden said at the White House. “I want to thank my great Vice President, Kamala Harris. She’s experienced, she’s tough, she’s capable. She’s been a great partner for me and a great leader for our country.”

The president continued, “The choice now rests on you, the American people. As you make that choice, remember the words of Benjamin Franklin, which hang on my wall here in the Oval Office, alongside busts of Dr. King, Rosa Parks and Cesar Chavez.”

Biden’s decision to forego reelection came as a shock to the public and even to Democrats close to the president. His campaign had fundraising events planned through August and had repeatedly told Democratic lawmakers that he had no plans to abandon the race.

Critics and supporters had called for Biden to step down from the Democratic nomination list after his disastrous performance in the first presidential debate and years of behavior that suggested mental decline.

The speech For roughly 11 minutes, the president sat at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office and bragged about his years in politics and his decision to retire.

The speech was attended by the president’s family, including First Lady Jill Biden, his daughter Ashley Biden and his son Hunter Biden.

Former President Donald Trump He called the Oval Office speech a “terrible” one and accused Democrats of staging a coup against the president.

“I knew there was a coup going on in the palace and I thought Harris was probably going to win,” Trump said of Harris. “She had an advantage.”
