Strong Majorities Blame Kamala Harris for Joe Biden’s Policies, Approval Crashing and Burning Already

A majority of Americans blame Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, for the policies of outgoing President Joe Biden, according to a poll obtained exclusively by Breitbart News.

The Senate Opportunity Fund asked 800 voters several questions about the Democratic switch from Biden to Harris between July 22 and July 24. Perhaps the most interesting thing about the data is how little voters see in the data between Harris and Biden on actual policy performance. The poll also broke down the sample into “swing states” with a sample size of 511 voters. Nationally, the margin of error is 3.5 percentage points, and in swing states, 4.3 percentage points.

Slide Deck reveal The surprising results of the poll, provided exclusively to Breitbart News ahead of its release, are sure to cause some unrest among Democrats who hoped that Ms. Harris’s selection as the nominee might get the party back on track. It appears the opposite is true: Democrats are in dire straits after Mr. Biden dropped out of the race on Sunday, and Ms. Harris is not the savior they were hoping for.

When asked whether they agreed or disagreed with the statement, “Kamala Harris’ record is the record of the last four years of the Biden Administration,” a staggering majority of respondents, 68%, agreed. Only 19% disagreed, and 13% said they had no opinion or didn’t know.

Similarly, when asked whether they agreed or disagreed that “In terms of policy, Kamala Harris would be no different from Joe Biden,” a staggering 66 percent agreed, while only 27 percent disagreed.

Both questions were answered by majorities across the political spectrum, liberal, moderate and conservative.Similarly, the numbers in the battleground states are very similar to the national results, suggesting that a string of national polls showing former President Donald Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, leading Harris doesn’t bode well for the Democrats.

Some other findings from the Senate Opportunity Fund poll were damning for Democrats. First, the list of issues respondents said were most important (they were asked to choose their top three issues) ranks inflation, economy and jobs, immigration, national security, and crime and drugs as the top five issues voters think about in the 2024 election. Abortion doesn’t come in until number six, with “democracy” coming in at number seven. Guns, climate change, and social justice issues round out the issue set, but the list of issues voters ranked as their top priorities heavily favors the Republican nominee for Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio).

Harris’ approval ratings were also low at the start of the campaign, with 51% saying they viewed her unfavorably. Of those, 39% viewed her very unfavorably and 11% viewed her somewhat unfavorably. Only 43% viewed her favorably. Next, when asked whether Biden’s decision to drop out of the race was a “political decision” or a “patriotic decision,” 53% (again, a majority) said Biden’s move was political, while only 38% said it was patriotic.

Next, when asked whether Democrats should nominate Harris as they currently do, or through an “open process,” more people said it should be an open process. Only 41% said it should be Harris, while 48% said it should be an “open process.” Liberal-leaning voters said it should be Harris without an open process by more than two-to-one margins (68% to 28%), while moderate voters were split evenly on this question at 45%. And even in battleground states, 2% more people opposed Harris, while 49% wanted an open process and 40% said it should be Harris.

Moreover, another slide shows that Harris’ favorability rating has plummeted in the past few days as Republicans have begun to expose her record to the American public. When the survey began on July 19, her favorability rating was 47 percent net and her unfavorability rating was 50 percent net. Just a few days later, on July 23, her favorability rating dropped by 7 percentage points net to 53 percent net unfavorability and 43 percent net favorability. A 7-point swing for any politician in just three days is astonishing. However, further polls by other groups will likely reveal similar swings. This shows that things are not going well at all for Harris, despite the mainstream media and Democrats taking great delight in her coronation.

Additionally, all but one of the top five words respondents used to describe Harris were negative. The top two were “unqualified” at 42 percent and “unprepared” at 38 percent. The third, “qualified,” was chosen by just 31 percent, while the next two, “weak” at 31 percent and “liberal” at 30 percent, were also negative.

Next, respondents were asked which issue they most associated with Harris, and the overwhelming answer was border and immigration. Border and immigration was the only issue where respondents associated Harris with more than 20 percent, and it increased significantly to 26 percent. Meanwhile, “Senate President” came in second with 17 percent, and “Crime/police funding” came in third with 15 percent. No other issue broke double digits.

Respondents were then asked if the Republican Party was united heading into the 2024 elections, and 74% said they were, with only 17% disagreeing. When the same question was asked about the Democratic Party, only 51% agreed that the party is united, with 35% disagreeing and thinking the party is divided.

Finally, when polls pitted Trump against Harris and asked who they thought would better unify the country, more people said Trump (44 percent) compared with Harris (43 percent). In battleground states, Trump’s numbers rose to 47 percent while Harris’ numbers dropped to just 44 percent.
