On “CNN News Central” on Friday, Rep. James Clyburn (D-South Carolina) said Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris should respond to the Trump campaign “with her record,” pointing out her past statements, “but Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans just keep lying.”
co-host Boris Sanchez asked.[T]The Trump campaign is using some of Harris’ past comments about banning fracking. Demilitarizing the police, Promoting Medicare for All “She’s trying to convince voters that she’s an extreme leftist. How do you think she should respond?”
Clyburn responded: “I’m talking about her record. She has a record as a prosecutor in the state of California, prosecuting people who break the law. She has a record as attorney general for the entire state of California, which is three times the size of the most populous state out of the other 49 states. And she has a record as vice president of this country. So, regardless of what the MAGA Republicans say, what she needs to do is draw attention to her record. That speaks for itself. The problem with politics today is that people lie and continue to lie. And we tend to accept that as normal. This is not normal in the United States of America. When I grew up here in South Carolina, lying was one of the worst things you could do. But Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans just lie, lie, and continue to lie. And we tend to accept that. Her record is very clear to anyone who wants to look. So we can’t just leave it to them. We, the Democrats, need to call attention to this record… so that the American people can take a good look at her record and not have to listen to stupid things coming from the other side.”
Sanchez retorted:[T]The things I pointed out, Medicare for All and demilitarizing the police, are things she said early on in the 2020 campaign.”
