Vice President Kamala Harris is now backing her boss Joe Biden’s radical proposals to overhaul the U.S. Supreme Court, signaling she is not abandoning her far-left track record even as she seeks to win over voters in battleground states in the 2024 presidential election.
As previously reported by The Blaze News, Biden proposed three major changes to the Supreme Court’s composition and inner workings on Monday. Biden wants 18-year term limits and a “binding code of conduct” for all justices. Targeting his alleged loafer campaign against former President Donald Trump and recent Supreme Court decisions on presidential immunity, Biden also wants a constitutional amendment that would declare that “no one is above the law.”
Harris continues to champion leftist fantasies such as fundamentally altering one of the three branches of government that may be popular with ideologues in California but not with blue-collar workers in Rust Belt states like Pennsylvania and Michigan.
“I share our Founding Fathers’ belief that the power of the President is limited, not absolute. We are a nation of laws, not kings or dictators,” Biden reportedly wrote.
Harris voiced her support for Biden’s Supreme Court “reform” proposals on Monday night, calling them essential to strengthening public “confidence” in our nation’s highest court.
“The United States Supreme Court is clearly facing a crisis of confidence, which is why President Joe Biden and I are calling on Congress to pass significant reforms, from imposing term limits to requiring compliance with a binding ethics code,” Harris wrote on X.
“And in our democracy, no one should be above the law, so we must ensure that former presidents do not have immunity for crimes they committed while in the White House.”
According to some media outlets, including left-leaning ones, Vox And that The Daily Beastpoints out that there is little chance that this proposal will become the law of the land, especially since at least some of the ideas contained in it would require constitutional amendments.
Moreover, Biden and Harris have made no effort to move it forward. New York PostSenate Democrats, who would normally be tasked with drafting legislation on such a proposal, weren’t even briefed on its contents.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) similarly said there was no chance the Biden-Harris proposal would pass the House.
This proposal is the logical conclusion of the ongoing efforts by the Biden-Harris Administration and Congressional Democrats to delegitimize the Supreme Court. Their calls to expand and staff the Supreme Court will soon be reinstated. It is indicative that Democrats want to change the system that has guided our country since its founding simply because they disagree with some of the Supreme Court’s recent decisions. This dangerous ploy by the Biden-Harris Administration failed when it passed the House of Representatives.
But perhaps more importantly, Harris’ support for the proposal shows that she is not about to soften her left-wing stance, even in the midst of a tough presidential election. While some media outlets have tried to hide her record as Biden’s border chief and her support for groups that bailed out rioters in 2020, Harris continues to champion leftist fantasies, such as a fundamental shift in one of the three branches of government that may appeal to ideologues in California but not to blue-collar workers in Rust Belt states like Pennsylvania and Michigan.
