Kamala Harris expected to be lone Democratic presidential candidate ahead of party’s official vote

The Democratic National Committee announced Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris is the only presidential candidate eligible to run for the Democratic presidential nomination.

No other leading Democrats have announced their intentions to seek the party’s nomination, but the Democratic National Committee’s announcement formally paved the way for the vice president to run unopposed, the Democratic Party said in a statement. Associated Press.

Delegates to the party’s national convention will vote to formally endorse the candidates under new online voting procedures adopted by the party last week. Voting will begin on Thursday and end on Monday, the statement said, adding that votes for candidates other than Harris will be counted as “present.”
