Disney cast members have reportedly accepted a three-year contract that includes an immediate 20 percent increase in base pay. This comes after a strike at Disney theme parks and hotels in California.
A coalition of four labor unions known as Disney Workers Rising announced a tentative agreement had been reached, averting what could have been the first strike at Disneyland Resort in 40 years. report From CBS News.
The coalition represents 14,000 cast members (a collective term for Disney ride operators, store clerks, janitors, candy makers, ticket takers, parking attendants and other employees) who work at Disney theme parks and resorts in California.
Negotiations that have dragged on for months have reportedly concluded with Disney workers agreeing to a three-year contract that will increase their wages by $6.10 over the next few years, on top of an immediate $4.10 increase in the minimum base salary.
CBS reports that the ratified contract also provides cast members with “improved attendance policies and sick leave,” new benefits and “extended tenure for senior employees.”

“By wearing the buttons, attending rallies, and telling their stories publicly, Cast Members fought for a brighter future for themselves, their peers and their families,” the Disney Workers Rising bargaining committee said.
“These contracts are historic for Disney cast members, and we are pleased that they will improve their lives as a result,” the union added. “By ratifying these contracts, Disney cast members have secured historic pay raises and policies and protections that reflect their role as creators of magic at Disney Parks.”
Before the new terms were agreed upon, the performers reportedly filed an unfair labor practice report, alleging they were treated unfairly because they wore union badges while at work.
As Breitbart News reported, thousands of workers at Disney’s theme parks and resorts in California recently voted to authorize a possible strike amid contract negotiations.
The strike was authorized by an overwhelming majority of approximately 99 percent of union members who voted.
