Milveth Teresa, a paralegal from Pennsylvania’s growing Latino community, told NBC that she opposed President Biden and now volunteers for the Trump campaign.
On MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Report” on Wednesday, NBC News correspondent George Solis shared insights from interviews with local residents of Reading, Pennsylvania, one of the key battleground states in the US that either candidate needs to win in the 2024 election. Reading is one of the towns collectively known as Pennsylvania’s “Latino Belt,” with a Latino population that is equal to or greater than the statewide average, which could determine the outcome of the entire election.
Solis reported that while Biden won Redding by more than 46 votes in 2020, the city has shifted 15 points to the right since 2016. He also argued that Vice President Harris, who is currently the presumptive Democratic nominee, is reportedly favored over Trump more than Biden among Hispanic voters.
Teresa, who now volunteers at the local Trump campaign office, told NBC correspondents that she voted for Biden in 2020. She explained that she was frustrated by the rising costs of living and doing business in her town, and switched to supporting Trump in 2024. Biden’s endorsement of Harris as his new front-runner has reportedly further alienated her support.

“I just don’t trust her,” she told the NBC correspondent.
When Solis asked why, she replied, “Because I don’t trust her background.”
While Harris’ political record is less well known than President Biden’s, some of her past comments about illegal immigration and her record as a prosecutor have been used against her by critics.
In another clip from the interview with Teresa, she can be heard saying, “Think about what you want for your country, what you want for your children.”
Solis spoke to Mitchell about the energy he felt from Latino voters in the area, saying “they’re so energized” and that many of them were saying “this vote is so important to our election.”

MSNBC shared an image depicting a “Latino belt” that could decide the outcome of the election in Pennsylvania and across the country.
Democrats are scheduled to meet on Wednesday to finalize the timing of Harris’ nomination for president.
A news correspondent said both campaigns are aware of the excitement in the area, but that while the Trump campaign has not made plans for when it will be there, it is certainly “on its radar.”
Meanwhile, he said, “The Harris campaign has approximately two dozen campaign offices across the state, and again, voters here know that in this tight race for the state and the presidency, the keys to the White House may be right here in Pennsylvania.”
