Israelis Brace for Potential Attack by Iran

Heading into the weekend, Israel was bracing for a possible Iranian attack as Iranian leaders threatened to retaliate against Israel for the attack that killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran earlier this week.

While the Israeli government maintains that travel to Israel remains safe, several US and European airlines have suspended service to Israel until early August, leaving many travellers stranded on cancelled flights.

Rumors circulated about potential Iranian plans, including a missile attack many times larger than the 300 missiles fired at Israel in April, nearly all of which were intercepted.

of Jerusalem Post report There is speculation that Iran may attack on the Jewish holiday of Tisha Bau (9th of Av), a day of fasting commemorating the destruction of the First and Second Temples.

Sky News Arabia reported on Friday, citing Western intelligence sources, that it has evidence that Iran is planning to attack Israel on Tisha Bau, Aug. 12-13, in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

The report noted that targeting Israel on the Holy Day of Mourning will have emotional and psychological impacts.

The report argued that Jewish Israelis may be particularly vulnerable on this day, which could lead to increased psychological distress.

The State of Israel itself is sometimes referred to by Jews as the “Third Temple,” and Iran is likely using this as a form of psychological warfare.

of Abu Ali Express The news service, which reports on Arabic-language media, urged its followers to “not take at face value” information circulated on social media by “Iranian channels or channels affiliated with the Shiite axis.”

However, there were also reports of Israeli airstrikes on Dabaa airfield in Syria, which is used by Hezbollah.
