Anthony Ammirati may not come home with a medal at the Olympics, but he might end up a winner after all.
The 21-year-old French pole vaulter was aiming to compete in the men’s pole vault final but failed to qualify.
On his third attempt on Saturday, Ammirati attempted to jump 5.70 metres but ended up with a bizarre failure.

Unfortunately, Ammirati failed the vault after his penis hit the bar twice while going over it.
It was clear from the replay what had happened, and the broadcasters seemed unsure how to handle it.
Naturally, social media caught wind of the disaster and Ammirati quickly became the target of crude jokes.
“Oh, he brought a baguette to the game.” One user wrote one of the more printable answers.
“Well, you win and you lose.” Add another one.

Given the war against transgender athletes in women’s sports, there were some jokes like that.
“I can understand this happening to male athletes, but when it happens to female athletes it’s frowned upon.” Posted by 1 user.
X-User counted Ammirati’s Instagram followers, which grew from about 8,400 to just over 9,000. Within a minute. At the time of publication, it had reached 32,000.

Ammirati’s best vault was 5.60m, good for 15th place. The men’s final is scheduled for Monday.
Ammirati won the U-20 World Championships in Colombia two years ago.
