Pelosi on Biden Not Holding Cabinet Meetings, if White House Hid His Mental State: He’s ‘Consequential’ POTUS

On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., responded to questions about President Joe Biden not holding a Cabinet meeting in nearly a year and whether Biden’s cognitive impairment was being covered up by the White House, saying, “Biden is a significant president.”

While discussing the June debate, Pelosi said, “I knew I was going to see Joe Biden at the State of the Union. I didn’t want to debate what his name was, because he’s always the butt of jokes. Not a funny joke, but a joke. But he said, no, I’m looking forward to it. So he was confident about it. As the party chair for California and also as a leader and chair of my own congressional candidates and other candidates — not myself, but the party’s candidates — I would say two things if you’re going to a debate: Clear your head, and remember, as my daughter Christine always says, the Tour de France is won in bed, rest. Rest and clear your head. You know why you’re here, what you care about, how you want to get things done. You want to show people what’s in your heart. You don’t have to memorize anything. You don’t have to prepare for days. So when I saw him, I just didn’t think it was a good idea to over-prepare.”

Host Jake Tapper asked, “Did you think that was all? The president hasn’t held a full Cabinet meeting since October of last year. Some Democrats I’ve spoken to believe that the president is clearly not communicating the way he used to, and that people in the White House are hiding this from senior Democrats like you and are tightly controlling who has access to the president.”

“I think this is an impactful president. He’s accomplished great things during his time in office as we speak,” Pelosi responded.

Tapper then interjected that Biden might look at history for deciding to drop out of the 2024 presidential race. Pelosi responded that Biden would be remembered as an altruistic person. She added that she hadn’t spoken to Biden since he dropped out of the race, but that it was not unusual for them to go weeks without speaking.
