New data shows that Vice President Harris is leading former President Trump in the battleground state of Arizona, while Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) has an 11-point lead over his Republican opponent, Kali Lake, in the state’s Senate race.
of HighGround Public Affairs SurveyThe poll, released Thursday, showed Harris receiving 44.4% of the vote to Trump’s 41.6%, within the poll’s margin of error. Arizona is seen as a key battleground state in the election after President Biden narrowly won it in 2020.
About 8.8% of respondents didn’t know or refused to answer, and about 5.2% said they would support a different candidate in the November election.
“Now that the primaries are over, the picture is beginning to become clearer, with new presidential candidate Vice President Harris starting with a small but notable lead,” HighGround president and CEO Chuck Coughlin said in a statement. “This is a good start, but the onslaught is already on and things are getting tough.”
The poll also found that more Democrats said they supported Harris than Republicans who said they supported Trump: About 86% of Democrats said they supported the vice president as their first choice, while about 79% of Republicans said they supported the former president.
The poll showed Gallego receiving 49.6 percent of the vote to Lake’s 38.6 percent. About 9 percent said they didn’t know or would refuse, and 2.6 percent said they would vote for another candidate.
The poll was conducted among 500 Arizona voters from July 31 to Aug. 5 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.38 percentage points.
Trump has a 2.2-point lead over Harris, based on 10 polls, according to The Hill/Decision Desk Arizona polling average. Gallego has a 5.9-point lead over Lake, according to aggregated data.
