Surging Donald Trump Neutralizes Harris’s Momentum Nationally

Former President Donald Trump has fallen four points behind Vice President Kamala Harris in the race after just one week, nullifying the momentum she gained as she rose to the top of the Democratic field, according to an RMG Research/Neapolitan News Service poll.

In opinion polls, Published Friday’s poll showed Ms. Harris with 44 percent, Mr. Trump with 43 percent and independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with 6 percent. If undecided voters are added to the overall list of candidates, the numbers drop to 47% for Harris, 46% for Trump and 2% for Kennedy, with another 2% saying they would vote for another candidate or skip the election and 3% still undecided about who to support.

Compared to the previous RMG Research poll: carried out The poll, conducted from July 29 to 31 and released on August 2, showed Trump’s lead jumping four points in just one week while Harris’ lead has stagnated.

A previous poll had Harris leading the 45th president by five points, at 47 percent and 42 percent, respectively. Kennedy was at 6 percent in that poll.

This latest poll was conducted among 2,000 registered voters from Aug. 5-7 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points. Of note, Harris selected Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) as her running mate on Aug. 6, the day the poll was open, making them officially the Democratic presidential and vice presidential candidates that day.

Trump’s rise and Harris’ stagnation coincide with Harris avoiding in-person interviews or formal news conferences for several weeks. Though she answered some questions on Thursday, as of Friday she had avoided the press for 19 days.

She said Thursday she would schedule an interview “by the end of the month,” according to Breitbart News.

Ms. Harris has largely avoided press interviews while giving campaign speeches in battleground states where candidates can usually get their message across in friendly surroundings without interruption, but on Wednesday in Michigan, pro-Palestinian protesters challenged her, and she coldly dismissed them.

The moment highlighted deep divisions on the left over the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war and the threat that large swaths of “apathetic” Democrats in key battleground states will not vote in November, a move that once plagued Biden and now endangers Harris.
