A cafeteria manager behind a Florida elementary school was hit by three propane tanks on Friday, injuring at least one person, authorities said.
The attack happened just before 3:30 p.m. on the grounds behind Marjory Stoneman Douglas Elementary School, a school in south Miami-Dade County that shares its name with the high school where a gunman massacred 17 classmates in 2018.
Cafeteria workers drove their car into the tank, cracking the lid and spewing a ton of propane gas into the air. 7News Miami reported.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue firefighters and the hazardous materials division were on scene, shutting down the leaking tank and monitoring for any other leaks, a spokesman confirmed.
The school and a nearby church were evacuated and the driver was taken to hospital, but his condition is not yet known.
The school was not in session at the time of the accident.
According to the elementary school calendar, Saturday will be the school’s first official back-to-school event for parents and students. The first day of classes is Aug. 15.
The Miami-Dade School District did not immediately respond with further details.
