The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced that it is currently investigating claims that internal communications of President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign were hacked by the Iranian government.

The former president said Saturday that Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) had notified his campaign and explained that Iran had compromised one of its websites.

But researchers and a Trump campaign spokesman said the Iranians “only had access to publicly available information.”

Meanwhile, the Iranian government has denied claims that Iranian hackers were targeting the Trump campaign.

The campaign cited a report published Friday by researchers at Microsoft, in which company employees said hackers linked to the Iranian government had attempted to break into the accounts of “senior officials” in the U.S. presidential campaign in June.

The hackers reportedly used the hijacked account of a former political adviser to attack the government official, without providing further details about the identity of the target.

“We can confirm that the FBI is investigating this matter,” the agency said in a brief statement.
