Democratic strategist Van Jones said Monday that former President Trump is “panicking” about not receiving as much media attention as Vice President Harris, and is responding by becoming more vocal about the threat his political opponents pose to the country.
“He’s failing, he’s floundering. Listen, they’re saying this is the worst three weeks of his campaign,” Jones, the CNN contributor, said in an interview with Anderson Cooper on Monday. “That’s what the media is saying.”
“This is the year he was indicted, convicted, shot, actually took a bullet, but that’s not as bad for him as not getting the attention that Kamala got,” he added.
President Trump returned to the social media platform “X” on Monday, where he gave an interview to owner Elon Musk on the space platform. The same day, President Trump posted a video to X in which he described the election as “the final battle” and vowed to “get America completely free from these bad guys.”
Jones suggested Trump’s dark message was likely a response to the growing enthusiasm and subsequent media attention that Harris’ campaign has received in recent weeks.
“The only thing that’s happened is he’s not getting as much attention as Kamala Harris,” Jones said.
“He’s frightened by that, even more than he is a convicted criminal and someone who nearly got killed. That tells you the level of the narcissistic challenge we’re facing,” he added.
The comments come as Trump has placed increased focus on attendance figures at Harris’ rallies, after she accused, without evidence, of the vice president using artificial intelligence to inflate attendance figures.
The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
