The girl also allegedly was encouraged to undergo a mastectomy and take gender-change hormones by a transgender therapist who was introduced to her through her school counselor.

After being manipulated by the school, the student once again identifies as a girl and regrets his decision.

“This was all done in secret for months, without our clients’ knowledge,” said Eric Sell, the couple’s lawyer.

The lawsuit, filed on Aug. 7,Number They filed suit against the Department of Education and the Brighton School District alleging that parents’ constitutional rights were violated.

“We went to the well to stop HB23-1039, but they didn’t listen. We told Democrats we would sue, and rightly so. Counselors, teachers, and schools have no right to play the role of parents who lead our children down a path from which there is no return,” wrote Republican Rep. Brandi Bradley of Colorado.

The Colorado law in question requires public schools to use a child’s “preferred name,” and could expose schools to lawsuits if they refuse.

The couple were identified in the complaint as Jane Doe and John Doe, and their 16-year-old daughter was identified as AD.

“Unfortunately, the state of Colorado and its public schools have erected walls between children and the parents who love and support them, causing further isolation and harm,” the lawsuit states. “And in the process, the government has violated parents’ constitutional rights.”

The girl suffered from anxiety and depression and, under guidance from her school, began identifying as a boy when she started high school.

The school counselor instructed the AD to change his pronouns and name, which all teachers were notified of, and instructed him not to inform parents of the student’s new identity.

As AD continued into her first grade, her parents realized the school was becoming “socially [transitioning]” Their daughter was murdered without their consent or knowledge.

“By that time, however, the school’s actions had eroded AD’s trust in her parents,” the lawsuit states. “The Dohs were loving and supportive parents who wanted their daughter to explore the roots of her distress through therapy rather than viewing gender transition as a panacea to all problems. However, AD was so convinced that gender transition was the only answer that her parents’ alternative approaches were perceived as unsupportive. The Dohs informed counselors that they did not want AD to socially transition, yet the school continued to treat AD like a boy.”

During a session with a transgender therapist, the therapist reportedly told AD, “You’re a boy,” after which the two “discussed taking testosterone and having a mastectomy as next steps,” the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit seeks to change state laws and school transgender policies to avoid future victimization, along with damages and legal costs.
