Washington State Attorney said The two suspects arrested for shooting and killing the mother may be part of a larger organization that targets Asian people as victims.
Detectives with the Snohomish County Major Crimes Unit announced at a news conference Thursday that 28-year-old Kevin Sisulu and 23-year-old Chris Johnson have been arrested for the shooting and killing of Ira Sok during a robbery in South Everett in 2022.
“They shot and killed a young mother with her 7-year-old child sleeping next to her in bed.”
Both men face a host of charges, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.
“In an attempt to create a climate of fear, these men broke into a home in the middle of the night, dressed in black, identified themselves as police officers and held up guns,” said U.S. Attorney Tessa Gorman. “Tragically, they shot and killed a young mother while her 7-year-old child slept next to her in bed. This indictment aims to hold them accountable for the terror they unleashed on our community.”
The investigation is still ongoing and other suspects in the home invasion group are also being sought.
“This senseless act of violence left a young child motherless and has had a deep impact on our community,” Sheriff Susanna Johnson said.
Lynnwood Police Public Information Officer Maren McKay previously described the international home invasion ring after two other suspects were arrested. Arrested In May.
Detectives said gang members would place tracking devices on cars they found in the parking lots of Asian grocery stores and follow them to their homes to rob them. Police say gang members targeted Asians because they perceived them as “vulnerable.”
“We anticipate there may be arrests in the coming days. Unfortunately, detectives believe this issue may continue for the foreseeable future,” McKay said.
Detectives with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and Lynnwood Police Department say the group is responsible for at least 300 thefts in King and Snohomish counties since 2021. The stolen items total $5 million in cash and jewelry.
