Jane Fonda says Harris-Walz ticket is ‘only hope’ to beat ‘orange man’ in campaign call with climate activists

Actress Jane Fonda and other climate activists gathered Friday to promote Harris and Waltz’s campaign as “proud climate candidates.”

Climate Voters supporting Harris kicked off the virtual call Friday, two years after the signing of the Curb Inflation Act of 2022, to discuss “the IRA’s historic achievements” and “hear messaging guidance and the best ways for Climate Voters to get involved in the campaign.”

The call was hosted by behavioral scientist Sweta Chakraborty, who said there was a “palpable” excitement about Harris becoming the Democratic nominee.

The call also featured celebrities such as Fonda and TV personality Bill Nye.

Fonda urged people to “vote with climate change in their hearts” and called the Harris-Waltz pair “our only hope.”

“Staying out of the polls and voting for a third-party candidate is the same as voting for an orange guy,” she told the audience on a conference call.

Other speakers included former Secretary of State John Kerry, Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Washington Democratic Governor James Inslee.

“Kamala Harris really gets this issue,” Inslee said, recounting a time when he was in the White House and the vice president told him “how excited she was” about climate issues.

“Harris-Waltz is a proud climate candidate,” said Jake Schwartz, the campaign’s interim climate voter director.

Some speakers criticized both Trump and Vance, claiming they were “pandering to polluters” and trying to “roll back American freedoms.”

Harris has been a longtime advocate for climate change and, in a recently resurfaced video, claimed that “climate anxiety” is why young people aren’t buying homes or having children.
