The focus of this Sunday’s show will likely be on Vice President Harris’ rising popularity in key battleground states as the Democratic candidate to challenge former President Trump.
Harris has had a whirlwind few weeks since President Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race. She has risen to the top of the Democratic field, during which she picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) as her running mate. She will head to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next week with great enthusiasm within the party, a stark contrast to the gloom felt by many Democrats after Biden’s poor performance in the debates in June.
A recent New York Times/Siena College poll found Harris leading Trump by four points in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, five points in Arizona and two points in North Carolina. The poll also showed Harris trailing Trump by just one point in Nevada and four points in Georgia.
With his home state’s convention just days away, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (Democrat) is scheduled to appear on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.
Earlier this month, Pritzker said the Democratic National Convention had been “phenomenal” and that the “excitement was palpable.”
“The United Center, where the convention will be held, is being renovated and is looking beautiful,” Pritzker said.
Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.), one of the first House Democrats to call on President Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, is scheduled to appear on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday.”
Moulton defended Walz last week after Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, who is scheduled to appear on “Fox News Sunday” this week, attacked Walz’s military record.
“When will @JDVance and Trump stop degrading the men and women who serve our country with honor?” Moulton, a Marine Corps veteran, asked. He said in a thread on the social platform. X. “JD knows personally that enlisting doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be in combat. 90% of military members don’t go into combat.”
“I am proud to have served alongside @Tim_Walz in Congress because of his service as a true American patriot,” Moulton wrote in a later thread.
Two other people who have been mentioned as possible running mates for Harris, Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Arizona) and Gov. Andy Beshear (D-Kentucky), are also scheduled to appear on CBS’ “Face the Nation” this week.
Kelly also criticized Vance, who last week attacked Walz’s military record.
“@JDVance, [United States Marine Corps] “Who taught you about respect? Tim Waltz served in uniform for decades,” Kelly, a retired Navy captain, said in X’s post.
