Chris Cuomo rips corporate influence at conventions

NewsNation host Chris Cuomo on Wednesday slammed what he called corporate influence at the Democratic National Convention and in party politics in general.

“But there’s another reality that’s literally staring them down…. Look at the circle of suits. This isn’t just about Democrats. There’s a money game. When people talk about one-party rule, we’re being bound by the reality of money in politics.” Cuomo said: He reported from the convention site in Chicago late Wednesday.

The price of the suite is [$500,000]”Do you think there’s a teacher group there? Do you think there’s something like the Cub Scouts of Columbia County, South Carolina, in that box? There’s some lobbying and good work going on,” he added. “Do you think the media box is free?”

Cuomo, a former CNN anchor, now hosts a prime-time show on NewsNation, a cable news channel owned by broadcasting giant Nexstar Media Group, which also owns The Hill.

“Why do you think I’m on the floor? NewsNation is not a bankrupt company. Nexstar is a huge organization and we are corporate media,” he continued. “We don’t have that box. It’s a game. You pay to play.”

The anchor lamented the business relationships between major corporations and influential politicians hoping to shore up their business interests under the new presidential administration, but did not name any of the companies.

“These boxes are being stuffed with the same people they say they’re going to regulate,” he said. “They’re literally looking down on their followers and saying, ‘Yeah, yeah, we’re going to beat them. We’re going to make them pay.’ They paid.” [$500,000; $700,000; $1 million; $1.5 million] To secure those seats, they will likely get a hotel suite gifted to the party.”

This week’s Democratic National Convention was marked by corporate price gouging and promises from key party figures to create a fairer economy for workers.

Vice President Harris, who is set to accept her party’s presidential nomination on Thursday night, has proposed banning unfair price fixing to lower the prices of food and other goods.

“Citizens United has legalized the most dangerous form of money in politics,” Gov. Cuomo said Wednesday. “The idea that they can counter that is almost laughable.”
