A man has confessed to brutally beating a 74-year-old man on a Baltimore street on Saturday. WJZ-TV reportedThe victim died at a hospital the following day, according to court documents. Surveillance Video.
police said Police arrested 43-year-old Timothy Clinedinst for his involvement in the attack on David Philpott.
“Without this person, he wouldn’t have died.”
Investigators said they determined Clinedinst assaulted Philpott in the 1700 block of Eastern Avenue, adding that the coroner’s office has ruled Philpott’s death a homicide.
Police said Clinedinst was arrested in Dundalk, Baltimore County on Monday and charged with manslaughter. WJZ reports Clinedinst is due to appear in court again in mid-September.
You can see surveillance video of the attack hereThe video shows the suspect pushing the victim backwards onto the sidewalk, causing him to fall halfway across the road on his right side. The suspect then lifts the victim by his legs and drags him onto the road between two parked cars. The suspect can also be seen kicking the victim in the head and putting his hands around his neck.
Police said Philpott suffered a broken hip and numerous cuts and bruises, WJZ reported.
Mr Philpot’s widow, Mary Margaret Philpot, told the station that the attack had exacerbated her husband’s pre-existing heart condition, saying: “He should not have died. Without this man he would not have died.”
“A 40-year-old man was killed,” Philpott’s neighbor, David Shebata, told WJZ. [something]”A 10-year-old has to punch a 70-year-old. It’s upsetting the sense of safety in the neighborhood. He was a great neighbor and always had a smile on his face.”
Philpott’s widow added to the outlet that her husband was a father, grandfather and military veteran who wanted to help others. “The running joke in the neighborhood was, if you had a problem, ‘Call Dave and he’ll fix it.'”
She added through tears that her late husband “was my hero. He was my world. I just want this to be resolved. Let justice be served.”
