No Convention Bump for Kamala After Weeks of ‘Remarkably Positive’ Media

Vice President Kamala Harris' approval rating did not “bounce” at last week's Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, but she still holds a four-point lead in national surveys, according to a new Morning Consult poll.

Morning Consult reported:

After the Democratic National Convention ended, Vice President Kamala Harris' approval rating held a four-point lead over former President Donald Trump (48% to 44%), matching her approval rating before the week-long convention in Chicago.

The Democratic National Convention did not give Vice President Kamala Harris an advantage over her Republican opponent in the 2024 presidential election, but it did leave more voters feeling comfortable with the Democratic nominee as the campaign gets underway.

While our head-to-head polling shows Harris' support has not grown after a week of infomercials for her and her party, two things seem to remain constant: this is a race the Democratic candidate will lose, and that never would have happened if Biden had still been in the race. Our weekly tracking polling shows Harris and Waltz continue to remain unpopular and face a very favorable press environment, in stark contrast to the popularity of the Republican candidate and Biden.

“A surprisingly favorable coverage environment” is a euphemism for the media's kowtowing coverage that ignored Harris' record, allowed her to avoid any voluntary contact with the media or voters, and portrayed former President Donald Trump in a negative light.

News Busters Reported It was reported last week that “coverage of Harris was more positive (84%) than any other major party candidate, while coverage of Trump was almost entirely unfavorable (89%).”

Harris came to the convention already enjoying a media-created hype, so the complimentary coverage of the Democratic candidate at the convention likely did not provide her with any additional benefit.
