Massachusetts Republicans allege that state officials have spent nearly $1 billion on illegal immigrants but are refusing to disclose details of that spending to legal residents.
The Massachusetts Republican Party has filed freedom of information requests with the state for more than 1,000 people. Six state government agenciesAn investigation has been launched by the party's investigative committee to uncover more information about payments made in connection with illegal immigration, including to the office of Democratic Gov. Maura Healey. press release It was published earlier this week.
“Governor Maura Healey and leaders of the Massachusetts General Assembly have made Massachusetts an international destination for illegal and inadmissible immigrants by providing overly generous welfare benefits.”
Massachusetts Republican Party Chairwoman Amy Carnevale said in a statement that the state's spending on illegal immigrants is “shrouded in secrecy” and designed to keep residents “in the dark.”
Carnevale continued that Republican state senators have introduced bills that would force companies that are currently “profiting” from this “crisis” to bid on immigration contracts. Such a bill would have created a more transparent process and reduced costs for taxpayers. Unfortunately, those efforts have been blocked by “the Democratic supermajority,” Carnevale said.
Additionally, at least 600 emergencies involving fire, police and emergency personnel occurred in state-funded emergency housing, according to a state Republican Party press release. But again, Gov. Healey and other state government leaders “concealed critical information” about these incidents, Carnevale alleged.
According to Fox NewsMassachusetts is home to at least 355,000 illegal immigrants, more than 50,000 of whom entered the state in the past three years, the outlet said, adding that at least 10,000 of those illegal immigrants are minors, 8,500 of whom are unaccompanied.
Carnevale alleged that during this “crisis,” Healey and other Massachusetts Democrats have hidden behind a “veil of secrecy” and routinely “obstruct journalists” and disrupt “the flow of information to the public.”
“We join Massachusetts journalists in saying enough is enough. The public deserves transparency and we want details of the businesses profiting from this crisis and the public safety issues impacting our communities. On behalf of the people of Massachusetts, we demand accountability,” Carnevale said.
MassFiscal spokesman Paul Craney told Blaze News:
Governor Maura Healey and Massachusetts legislative leaders have built Massachusetts into an international destination for illegal and inadmissible immigrants, funded by extremely generous welfare benefits. They have little restraint and refuse to implement policies to stop immigrants from coming in. This latest estimate will only get worse unless legislative leaders act to reverse the policies.
Healy did not respond to MassLive's request for comment.
