Not many people can say they spent the night sipping whiskey and smoking cigarettes with the late Frank Sinatra, but Tony Danza can.
In a new interview The New York TimesThe former “Who's The Boss” performer, who is currently promoting his new cabaret show “Tony Danza: Sinatra & Stories,” detailed an early-morning conversation he had with the legendary singer after partying all night.
“He was drinking Jack Daniels straight and smoking Camels, one after the other, and I said to him, 'Frank.' It felt weird to say Frank, but it was 2 a.m. and we'd been drinking, so I said, 'Frank, does smoking and drinking make your voice sound funny?'” the actor recalled.

Danza has been an admirer of Sinatra for as long as he can remember.
“My mother introduced me to Sinatra and showed me what was great about his music,” he told the outlet. “She'd say, 'Listen to how he sings this part.'”
During his appearance on “Who's The Boss,” the 73-year-old actor expressed a desire to have Sinatra appear on the show.

According to Danza, the deal came about after he approached Sinatra's daughter, Tina, at a famous Los Angeles restaurant.
“I got a call the next day saying Sinatra was going to do it,” Danza said. “I don't know why he decided to do it, but when he came in I infuriated everybody on set because I said, 'He's only going to do one take, and if he gets the take wrong, I'm going to kill him.'
“So we were all nervous and we did a take, and it went well, and then Frank said, 'Do you want to do another take?' And everyone was looking at me like, what an idiot,” Danza recalled.

Danza's cabaret show will open on September 10th at Cafe Carlyle in New York City.
“I'm not trying to emulate him at all,” Danza said of the show. “I've arranged the songs in new ways. I'm not trying to sing like him or anything like that. I'm just going to take control like he did when he was onstage,” Danza said. “It's an 'I'm here, and I belong here' attitude.”
