Kansas City Public Schools (KCK) flag football players will have access to new football equipment ahead of the district’s first girls football season.
Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Gary Stills and former NFL wide receiver Tim Barnett attended girls flag football events throughout the district and presented surprise gifts of flag belts and other equipment to players and schools.
Nike provided the jerseys through a $100,000 grant.

Chiefs mascot KC Wolf also made an appearance at the event.
“It's groundbreaking. We're making history here,” Chiefs youth marketing manager Sheila Sickau said.
Schickau added that the growth of girls' flag football will help create more equitable competition for high school athletes.

“I think it's time to finally give girls the opportunity to play football in a safe environment. Before flag football came along, the only option for many of our girls was co-ed tackle,” Schickau said.
Former NFL star Drew Bledsoe thinks playing Olympic flag football could be fun and would love to have Tyreek Hill on his team.
The girls at the event took part in a series of drills as they continue to prepare for the six-week flag football season. Only one KCK school will have a girls flag football team in 2023. Fox 4 Kansas City.

Flag football is becoming increasingly popular in the United States and is set to be included in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
