Once upon a time, the brilliant minds at NASA took us to the moon.
Now, the Harris-Biden administration's emphasis on DEI policies has sparked criticism that it prioritizes inclusion over the most qualified talent, potentially endangering national security and hindering scientific progress.
Meanwhile, NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams have been “trapped” on the International Space Station since June and could remain there for up to 240 days before being rescued, possibly by Elon Musk's SpaceX.
But DEI is a top priority, and advocates for it take issue with the demographics of NASA's workforce, which is 64% male and 54.1% white.
“What's the population of white people in America?” Pat Gray said with a laugh, adding, “Maybe it's a little low.”
“We want to get it to zero,” Gray scoffs.
As of 2020, 61.6% of the U.S. population is made up of white people, which means that white people are still underrepresented at NASA, according to NASA statistics.
“So diversity, equity and inclusion requires having more white people, not less,” Gray said.
