Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy shows off record-setting speed for first NFL touchdown

Xavier Worthy's incredible speed is what the Kansas City Chiefs liked about him when they took him in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

After all, he set the NFL Scouting Combine 40-yard dash record in 4.21 seconds.

But no one expected what would happen Thursday night when Worthy touched the ball for the first time in the NFL.

On the Chiefs' first drive, it was Worthy's turn to touch the ball on the fifth play when quarterback Patrick Mahomes faked a handoff to running back Isaiah Pacheco and tossed the ball to Worthy, who was sprinting behind him.

Worthy got the ball, looked up, saw multiple blockers ahead of him and unleashed his now-trademark jet shot.

Worthy evaded multiple Ravens defenders and, with some excellent blocking from his teammates, reached the end zone for a 21-yard rushing touchdown.

It's quite a way to handle your first NFL touches.

The Chiefs needed just five plays for their first touchdown of the season, but the fact that Worthy closed it out shows just how explosive Kansas City's offense has been this season.

Worthy, a Texas native, had 1,014 yards and five touchdowns receiving last season for the Longhorns, who reached the College Football Playoff.

He'll be surrounded by playmakers in the backfield like Travis Kelce, Ruchy Rice and Pacheco, but Worthy could be a catalyst for the Chiefs given what his speed brings, especially with blockers in front of him.
