Minnesota Timberwolves big man Rudy Gobert was not pleased when Shaquille O'Neal called him the “Worst of All Time” (WOAT) during an interview with his son Miles O'Neal for Complex magazine.
And he shared his thoughts about it.
When asked who the WOAT NBA player is, O'Neal quickly answered Gobert.

When Miles asked if Gobert was “worse than Ben Simmons,” his father was again quick to respond.
“Ben Simmons is a bad player, too,” O'Neal said. “You know why? I'll tell you why. If you sign for $250, [million]Show me the 250. There's a reason why I walk funny and can't turn my neck. [$120 million].

“There are guys out there who are shitting the system. They're making loads of money and they can't even play. I have no respect for those guys. Every time I make a comment like this, people think I'm being nasty.”
“But this is true. There are teachers, there are firefighters, there are doctors. They do good jobs, but they're underpaid.”
Gobert used the X to hit back at O'Neal.
“It's sad that someone as accomplished as @SHAQ is in both sports and business is still upset about other people's wealth and accomplishments,” Gobert wrote. “I understand the entertainment part, but unlike the rest of us, I don't need that to stay naive.”

Gobert's contract with the T-Wolves is worth $205 million over five years, all of which is guaranteed, which he signed in December 2020 while he was with the Utah Jazz.
Gobert was a three-time Defensive Player of the Year prior to his signing, and won the award again last season after averaging 2.1 blocks and 9.2 defensive rebounds per game with Minnesota.
However, this isn't the first time O'Neal has criticized Gobert, as he has previously spoken out about “Rudy Gobert money” and how he would be making it now.
“12 points and eight rebounds? I can do that right now,” O'Neal said on his “The Big Podcast” in March.
O'Neal isn't the only NBA critic of Gobert, telling ESPN in April that he accepts that Gobert is a hated figure around the league.

“It's important to be able to be at peace when you're alone, when there's no music, when there's no noise. I think that's inner peace. If you can achieve inner peace, I think you can be at peace almost anywhere.”
