Police say a professional ballroom dancer was arrested after allegedly striking a man on a motorcycle and then driving off with the bike stuck in front of his car.
Rebecca Mackenzie Tate, 23, was arrested late Wednesday, three days after John Powell, 34, was found with “life-threatening injuries” after being thrown from his bike in West Melbourne, Florida, early Sunday morning. The police.
“Tate did not remain at the scene or call 911 and is seen driving away with his motorcycle still attached to the front of his vehicle,” West Melbourne police said.
Police said CCTV footage then showed her pulling into a car park “in an attempt to hide” and then “attempting to retrieve her motorcycle from under the vehicle.”
The woman, a professional dancer, pianist and harpist, was reportedly then seen making a phone call before being picked up by unknown individuals in a black sedan.
She was arrested as Powell remained in critical condition. “The force of the collision caused his motorcycle helmet to dislodge, leaving him in the middle of the roadway with serious, life-threatening injuries,” police said.
DoorDash driver Billy LeBlanc was out making a delivery late at night when he found the biker lying in the middle of the road and helped rescue him. FOX Orlando reported.
“I never want this to happen to anyone, but I'm glad I was there and was able to help him,” the good Samaritan told the outlet.
According to court documents, Tate was charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing serious injury and two counts of attempted destruction of evidence.

Tate pleaded not guilty to the accident during a hearing Thursday and his bail was set at $15,000 on one charge and $2,500 on the other, according to court documents.
