Actress and environmental activist Jane Fonda has once again addressed international audiences, warning Democrat supporters abroad that if former President Donald Trump is re-elected, he will “jail” anyone who protests his policies.
“Young people overseas want to vote for a livable future, they want to vote for a voice in our democracy. With Harris, if they want something to happen or don't want something to happen, they can lobby, they can protest, they can demonstrate, they can do all sorts of things,” Fonda said. “The Orange Man won't allow that to happen. He says he's going to put people who don't agree with him in jail and make their lives miserable,” Fonda continued, before the event's host interjected that the next speaker, Sen. Ed Markey, was scheduled to speak at the online event.
Democrats Overseas is the official arm of the Democratic Party for U.S. citizens living abroad, providing assistance with voter registration and information on key policy issues during election season. According to the Federal Voting Assistance Program, approximately 3 million U.S. citizens live and vote overseas.

Hollywood stars including Kyra Sedgwick, Rob Reiner, Alfre Woodard and Fonda, as well as elected officials including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former Attorney General Eric Holder and Rep. Adam Schiff, gave short speeches to viewers, urging them to ignore Trump at the ballot box.

“One of the reasons this election in November is so important is because one of the top two candidates, and I don't need to name names, is leading us in exactly the wrong direction: the Orange Man. The Orange Man has made it very clear from day one, if elected, that 'dig, dig, dig'. And as I said, the world cannot afford another four years of not paying attention to the climate crisis. It's too late to solve this existential crisis. We need a strong democracy. And the Orange Man is also telling us that he is not committed to democracy,” Fonda continued.

Speaker Pelosi also slammed President Trump, calling the 45th president “what's his name again?” and claiming that “our democracy is at stake in this election.” She added that she was thankful to God that she was the Speaker of the House and not the Republican House Leader when President Trump's supporters breached the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
“I am very happy, to say the least, that God appointed me to be speaker last January 6th, because if I had a Republican speaker, things would be very different right now. So, on January 6th, Hakeem Jeffries must be Speaker of the House. It is a requirement. It's up to you. It's not a burden, it's up to you,” Pelosi said.

Eric Holder, a former attorney general under the Obama administration, also addressed the audience, calling Trump's political rhetoric and policies during the 2024 election “appalling.”
“They've become accustomed to everything from unfair districting to voter suppression to outright intimidation, which, you know, is just so un-American. Earlier this summer, Donald Trump spoke to some of his MAGA supporters and told them they just had to vote this one time. Just this one time. And they don't have to vote again. Which is pretty frightening,” Holder said.
