Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) claimed on ABC's “This Week” on Sunday that Vice President Kamala Harris' speech at the Democratic National Convention was a speech that former President Ronald Reagan was supposed to have delivered.
“If you look at Vice President Harris' speech, for example, at the Democratic Convention, it's a speech that Ronald Reagan might have given, it's a speech that George Bush might have given — one that embraces and understands the extraordinary nature of this great country, loves America, recognizes that America is a special place, and recognizes that we all have to work together to ensure that and to preserve that,” Cheney said. “Contrast that with what Donald Trump says every day, that America is a failed state, that America is a laughing stock. Denigrating the United States of America is part of Donald Trump's message.”
She added: “I think it's important for people to realize that at the end of the day, he's not a conservative. The policies that he's proposing include, you know, almost on a daily basis, the idea of imposing global tariffs, 100%, 200% tariffs. This is a fundamentally anti-conservative policy. This is also a policy that I point out to my friends who say they're voting for him because of his economic conservatism, that would stifle global trade and would likely put us on a path that we saw in, say, the 1930s, which was a recession then.”
