Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy slammed the Chiefs' medical staff for their handling of the eye injury he suffered during Thursday night's loss to Baltimore, calling the response “unprofessional.”
The 11-year NFL veteran suffered a fractured orbital bone when his helmet went under his chin strap during the third quarter while at the bottom of a pile that included Patrick Mahomes and Nnamdi Madubuike. According to the Baltimore Sun.
Van Noy expressed frustration with the Chiefs' training staff being slow to help him.
“I was disappointed in the way the Chiefs training staff handled the situation,” Van Noy said on a podcast he co-hosts with former NFL player Gerald McCoy. “I was supposed to see an eye doctor. They took a quarter to come into the locker room and talk to me. To me, that's just unacceptable, because then you start thinking, 'What if I'm trying to get back in the game? What if I'm really badly hurt?'”
Van Noy continued, “If they were expecting somebody to be there because the training staff had instructed them to be there, there should have been a little more urgency and the way it took so long was very unprofessional to me.”
The outside linebacker has not practiced since the injury.
He appeared in the episode wearing dark sunglasses.
Van Noy said the injuries were “moderate” and included a “pretty bad fracture.”
He praised the University of Kansas Medical Center emergency room staff for their work.
“if [the Chiefs] “I give them credit because they got it,” he said. “Everything went smoothly there. But before it happened, I thought it was kind of ridiculous.”
The Chiefs won their season opener on Thursday 27-20 and will host the Bengals in Week 2.
