Former Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush thwarted a burglar trying to break into his Encino, Calif., home on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to TMZ.
According to Variety, Bush lives in a gated estate in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, which was valued at $5.65 million as of 2019. The home is reportedly equipped with a gate, an alarm system and security cameras.
The incident happened around 11pm on Tuesday when Bush was in the house at the time and apparently shouted, startling the suspect and causing him to run away.

At least one suspect escaped by jumping out of a window in the home, and reports said officers arrived on the scene to find shards of broken glass on the ground behind the home.
Bush's defense of his home this week was the latest time he has had to defend one of his prized possessions since reclaiming his Heisman Trophy this year.

But Bush has been praising the NCAA recently. In an interview with Fox News Digital last week, Bush praised the College Football Playoff's new format and said the expansion to a 12-team format “is the way it was always meant to be.”
“Every other sport has a true playoff system. High school football has a true playoff system,” Bush told Fox News Digital while discussing his excitement to be part of Team Modelo, which will headline a full-time fan recruitment contest.
“I've always felt like why is college football the only sport that doesn't have a true playoff system? I think it's unfair to the sport because when we won, we were co-national champions with LSU in 2003. I wish we could have played LSU that year and competed for the No. 1 spot, but we never got the chance.”
