Georgia school shooting suspect’s father asks for separation from other inmates, cites ‘personal safety’

Lawyers representing the father of Apalachee High School shooting suspect Colt Gray are currently asking the court to keep him separated from other inmates for his safety.

Attorneys for Collin Gray, who is charged with four counts of manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of second-degree child abuse in connection with the Sept. 4 attack in Winder, Georgia, made the request in documents filed Wednesday in Barrow County Superior Court. According to WRDW. He is being held in the Barrow County Detention Center without bail.

“As a result of the reporting, public awareness generated through local and national media, and especially social media, has resulted in a constant barrage of information to the public, countless threats against the defendant, calls for harm and violence against the defendant, and in some cases calls for the defendant's death,” the 54-year-old's lawyer wrote in a copy of the complaint obtained by the station.

“The lives of many in the Barrow County community have been affected in immeasurable ways, and it would be reckless to assume that no inmates currently housed in the Barrow County Detention Center would seek to harm the defendant, either now or in the foreseeable future,” the attorneys continued.

“Furthermore, both the nature of the detention environment and the fact that such a detention environment requires nonstop supervision 24 hours a day, seven days a week, creates ample opportunity for individuals to commit such violence against a defendant, especially when the defendant is such a high-profile figure,” they said.

“In light of all of the above, defendant moves this Court to order the Barrow County Sheriff to isolate defendant from all other inmates in order to ensure defendant's personal safety.”

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital on Thursday.
