Donald Trump has been a longtime fan of Elton John, and liberal media predicted the pop singer would oppose him.
But contrary to the press's dismay, the pop star had kind words to say about the former president in an interview with Variety magazine.
“I know you're not a supporter of Donald Trump. He loves your music. How did you feel when he took the lyrics from 'Rocket Man' and used them as a nickname for Kim Jong Un?” the reporter asked Elton.
“It made me laugh. I thought it was great,” Elton replied, laughing again.
“Oh my goodness, Donald, I thought I was Rocket Man,” he continued. “Donald's been a fan of mine for ages and he's come to a lot of my concerts, so I've always been good to him and I appreciate his support.”
“When he did that I just thought it was so funny. I laughed,” he added.
Elton had ample opportunity to say bad things about the former president, but he didn't — and Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report is pleased about that.
“He hasn't said he's going to vote for him, and there's been no indication that he is,” Rubin said, noting that reporters had tried to persuade Elton “to go after him” but “he didn't.”
“I don't think most of us want to live in the extremely polarized and distorted situation we find ourselves in right now,” he added.
