On Thursday, when her morning radio show co-host Angela Rye asked Stein how many voting members there are in Congress, Stein hesitated, deflected the question and began focusing instead on the issue of voting rights.
But when pressed again, Stein suggested “around 600”, before Lai corrected him, saying the actual number was much less.
Angela Rye: For example, I would like to know how many members have the right to vote. [are] Member of the United States House of Representatives.
JILL STEIN: So we're being sabotaged. Democrats are disrupting our elections, interfering, putting spies and infiltrators into our campaigns…
Angela Rye: No, no, no, no, no. How many of you have voting senators? Dr. Stein, how many of you have voting senators?
Jill Stein: …compare that to us…
Angela Rye: No, no, no, no. Answer the question. How many voting members of the United States House of Representatives are there, Republicans, Democrats, and Independents? [are there in] total?
JILL STEIN: How many do you have in total? Like 600?
Angela Rye: No, it's 435.
JILL STEIN: Plus 100 in the Senate, right?
Angela Rye: Yes, I said the House of Representatives…
Many responded by accusing Stein of being ignorant on the matter and questioning her preparations for a presidential run.
